During second grade students are learning about telling time, measuring, 2D shapes, 3D shapes, and place value. All these standards for math are best with hands-on materials for each student to have access too. We also use expo markers on white boards to solve math problems in a quick and engaging way.
In my classroom during Language Arts centers I like to provide hands-on activities for my students that are engaging. Using a lite bright, magnetic drawing board, and a doodle board writing tablet can help students learn to practice writing/spelling specific sound patterns in words.
This past year my students have struggled with all types of writing. To make opinion writing more exciting I want them to write about the “Who Would Win?” books. This will get them engaged in the structure of opinion writing and the topic as well.
These last few years in education have been challenging for everyone but especially students. It can be doing fun art projects related to the core by doing an informative writing about animals and using colored paper to make the animals or drawing them with markers or even with colored rainbow pencils. There has been the challenge of wearing masks in schools. This has made it more difficult for me to hear my students and for students to hear each other. A student microphone would be very helpful to hear each other and have more meaningful class discussions about grade level topics. With the pandemic my students have struggled with learning the fundamentals of reading. These comfy floor seats will be a great addition to our classroom for a reading corner for students. In this space they can use whisper phones to hear themselves reading or reading to a friend to work on how to sound out and blend words.
