Health is more important than ever, not only including the pandemic. Many of our students suffer from asthma and are missing school for various health reasons. Our students live in an area with the highest amount of children with asthma in the country. As a Title I school, we try to provide as many resources to take care of the whole child. Many of my students are currently living in challenging situations. For example, many are currently living in shelters, others are doubled-up with extended families, while many others have had to make the transition into foster care Students are shown how to practice proper hygiene in the nurse's office, and what would be better than for them to leave with a physical reminder. When students have any health issues, there are discussions about their overall health. I instruct them on how to properly cover a cough and sneeze, take care of nosebleeds, proper handwashing, proper sanitizing and proper tooth brushing. I teach the students about asthma and nutrition, providing them with fresh drinking water. My classes are interactive and the students participate by jotting down thoughts and answers. I provide tooth holders to every student that loses a tooth. Your donations will help me provide a safe environment in which to teach my students about their health.
