I have been doing the LETRS training which has taught me about the importance of reading. I teach 5th grade and I typically focus on reading comprehension, but if they don't understand the words that what they are reading they cannot comprehend it. After doing LETRS and also seeing all the gaps my students have from COVID, I have realized the need to read more books so that they can increase their vocabulary and comprehension. In LETRS I have also learned that a great way to increase vocabulary and background knowledge is through reading diverse books. My students need more opportunities to read novels and diverse books. I believe that all my students should feel confident reading. They need more access to books that will enrich their vocabulary and help them continue to make growth.
