"Kindergarteners put on your Detective Hats!" We are going to solve what this symbol's name is and what sound it makes! Confidence building in a kindergartener is key. The Alphabet Arch will assist the students in identifying the correct letter as they point to and sing the Alphabet song. The Alphabet Soup Sorters cans will assist students to know the sounds those letters make, as well as, identify the first sound in each of the words in the 'can of soup'. Once students are able to identify letter sounds through phonological awareness activities they are able to progress onto more phonics based lessons where the letters and sounds are used together to make words. By donating to our class the seven Rainbow Phonics Tile with Built in Magnetic Board kits my kindergarteners will use them daily in a small group setting to create words by identifying letter sounds and blending them together to create many words. Example of how we would use this in class would be in a small group. Teacher says, "Detectives are you ready for your word, the words is /m/ /a/ /t/. Say the sounds. /m/ /a/ /t/. Find the letters, say the sounds and build the word." What better way to help all students at their academic level than to use the Rainbow Phonics Tiles to identify letter names, sounds and to create words. Students will identify a word and then switch letter tiles to create new sounds and make an entirely new word. Students will be able to take ownership in their reading ability because they can identify, sound out and read each word they make. It is amazing how a simple game can intrigue Kindergarteners to love reading and discovering new words!
