Budding elementary musicians can't rely on drums alone to build their beautiful voices!
I teach K-6 in a college-preparatory charter school where 99.5% of our students qualify for free lunch. In spite of the many challenges they face outside school, our students approach music with great vigor and are excited to learn. I am a floating teacher that brings music to the classroom, so it is imperative and most practical that the equipment we use every day be portable and durable, while still insuring the quality instruction our students deserve.
We have some instruments available for use in the classroom, but they are mostly unpitched percussion instruments. This does help with performing straight rhythm as a group (we have many talented drummers), but doesn't necessarily help with building the young voice, especially when our students don't have an instrument in front of them that can help to reference pitch.
