My Food and Nutrition One class offers students the chance to learn cooking techniques as well as nutrition. During the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been times student learning was at home. Students were not able to participate with their classmates in these school labs. Students have been excited to participate fully in these labs. To be safer during this pandemic I have made sure to keep student cooking groups smaller. To have smaller groups, I need to make sure that each kitchen has enough supplies. This allows students to stay in their unit and apply the techniques we have discussed in class. These labs allow students to cook healthy, nourishing meals in the classroom. Having cooking supplies allows my students to practice these cooking skills. For example, having the rubber scrapers come in handy during our unit on quick bread. The pasta makers allow students to "travel" to Italy and make homemade pasta from scratch. They can see the value in cooking as they practice during these labs.
