Due to COVID-19, for the past two years, my yearly funding for supplies was removed because I was told that speech-language pathologists were not considered classroom teachers. As a result, I have had a classroom budget of $0.
This project will provide much needed materials that will help 70+ students increase their listening skills, speaking skills, articulation skills and social language skills.
These students have faced many challenges presented by distance learning, masks, and funding cuts. Although important for preventing the spread of illnesses, masks hide your mouth and important visual cues for articulation and facial expressions. The mouth model will help present a visual representation of where articulators should be placed to make sounds. Many materials that might have provided tactile cues, such as tongue depressors, were out of the question due to the COVID budget-cut.
Additionally, my students love working for a chance to engage and socially interact with board games and activities. The games provide great opportunities for appropriate social communication and cooperation. As we know, social interactions became much more difficult during the pandemic. If we return to distance-learning, the TPT materials can be either used at school or at home to support language development. My students work very hard to earn rewards with their reward charts, learning grit and determination as they work toward their goals. They will be extremely grateful for some more incentive prizes. Thank you so much for considering my project!
