These wonderful math games will be used during our math workshop time. The students will get to work with a partner on a rotational schedule and choose a math game of their choice that aligns to what is being taught for the unit. After our workshop time, students write a few sentences of what they did with their partner that day and what they learned. We call it Math Talk. Students that are able to work hands on and articulate what they learned are more successful at math.
Students enjoy hands on learning and I'd like them to know that math can be fun-it doesn't always need to be paper and pencil. It doesn't always need to be a standardized test. There are many students that have testing anxiety and this will allow those students to demonstrate their understanding of what was taught through play. In addition, it can make learning enjoyable for everyone.
