  • Earning Fun Prizes

    Funded May 31, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to our speech and therapy classroom. My students have been working really hard to reach their goals and earn fun toys.

Sometimes it can be hard to find things that are motivating for students. And a lot of my students cannot have candy or food. Once they earn a toy, we even use it in therapy to further the reach their goals.

My students have been earning balls, and once they earn their ball, they get to play with it in therapy as a reinforcer. Thank you so much for donating. It's made a big difference for me not to have to spend my own money.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Martin

  • Everyone Can Communicate

    Funded Jan 30, 2022

I am so grateful for your generosity. I was able to get many fun and interactive toys, books, and special needs activities for my students. These items are expensive but so needed in classrooms. Usually I end up buying things out of my own pocket. Now my students will be able to have highly motivating therapy sessions. They will enticed to communicate in order to gain access to and play with these fun activities. I also was able to purchase many new books. They will be well loved and used for many years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Martin

This classroom project was brought to life by Utah State Board of Education.
Each item has a variety of uses during speech and language therapy tasks. Wordless picture books can be used for kids to demonstrate their story telling skills, as well as articulation skills. These same books can be used for labeling nouns and verbs without the distraction of words. Special needs toys are used to empower children who are non-speaking by enticing them to communicate. These toys make it fun to socialize. Specialty toys are expensive to buy but allow students to demonstrate knowledge of cause and effect, and participate in social interaction. Education toys that allow kids to match, use magnets, or show simple routine steps is a way to work on core vocabulary words and nouns. Core words are also called "power" words. Such as: get, turn, push, match, down, up, in, out... Simple toys allow the SLP and student to target "power" words during therapy.
