  • Black History Month

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

Thank you for your kind donations. Our scholars thoroughly enjoyed learning about brave Ruby Bridges and determined Mae Jemison during Black History Month. Your contribution furnished each scholar with an opportunity to express and present their understanding and recognition of two outstanding contributors to African-American History.

Our first project consisted of listening to read aloud "Mae Among the Stars." After hearing this incredible story, the scholars decided they wanted to be like Mae and build a spaceship for our classroom.

In the next unit, we watched videos and heard a read-aloud about Ruby Bridges. This unit introduced and expanded the scholars' vocabulary with new words such as segregation, crowd, brave, U.S. Marshal, and angry.

After both units, each scholar understood the importance of hard work, dedication, and never giving up on your dreams.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rice

As an educator for scholars with special needs, these craft items will support in-school instruction by facilitating a multi-sensory approach to meet learning objectives. In addition, the Clorox wipes will ensure a clean, sanitized workspace. Our scholars will have the opportunity to learn about famous African American inventors Garret Morgan and George Crum. They will use these craft items to create replicas of the traffic light and the potato chip. Giving scholars the opportunity to learn in a clean, safe, nurturing workspace will inspire and ignite future inventors and contributors of the world. More importantly, the joy of witnessing future leaders and innovators will be the most rewarding experience for scholars, their families, and the classroom staff.
