Funded Feb 9, 2022Thank you for your kind donations. Our scholars thoroughly enjoyed learning about brave Ruby Bridges and determined Mae Jemison during Black History Month. Your contribution furnished each scholar with an opportunity to express and present their understanding and recognition of two outstanding contributors to African-American History.
Our first project consisted of listening to read aloud "Mae Among the Stars." After hearing this incredible story, the scholars decided they wanted to be like Mae and build a spaceship for our classroom.
In the next unit, we watched videos and heard a read-aloud about Ruby Bridges. This unit introduced and expanded the scholars' vocabulary with new words such as segregation, crowd, brave, U.S. Marshal, and angry.
After both units, each scholar understood the importance of hard work, dedication, and never giving up on your dreams.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rice
