Cultivating Engineers and Architects: LEGO Visionaries

Funded Feb 25, 2022

My scholars were beyond excited to receive these lego sets. First grade is a significant transitional year. Expectations are expanding and changing in ways that can be exciting and challenging for my scholars. The familiarity and opportunity that comes with learning through story sets within the lego portfolio is memorable and impactful.

Many first graders are emergent readers but that does not mean, that they can not tell or create a story. The sets requested and received support vocabulary development, the building and understanding of context, as well as, habits of character like collaboration, perseverance, and initiative.

My scholars were beaming with curiosity and creativity as I shared our materials. They were able to show different parts of themselves, extending beyond paper and pencil, and in doing so their genius was celebrated in ways that were clear and relatable. As we move forward, we will continue to utilize these materials. We will take them beyond reading, writing, and science, and utilize them in math to support math story problems.”

With gratitude,
