My Body and My Mind Work Together for Success!
Funded Aug 15, 2023The impact that sensory tools have on my students is clear, helpful and calming.
Research has shown that young students are able to multi task. They can listen and look to my teaching, and at the same time keep their hands busy squeezing a rubber sensory tool. They can sit in their seat ready to learn, and wiggle on their sensory cushion. My students can sit at their desk and rub their hands o er a soft weighted blanket, calming down from this soothing action, and opening their brain for more learning.
In my class, students use sensory tools all day long, in every area of academic learning. Not only do these tools allow my students to free up some calm brain space for academic knowledge, they also help my students to feel happy. They know these tools will support them in their day, and they truly love them a lot.
I always hold myself to the highest expectation, and my students as well. Sensory tools help the whole class be their best self. My students learn and feel successful. What a winning combination all around.”

Funded May 17, 2011Thank you so very much for helping to fund my project, Creative Arts through Bibliotherapy. My classroom received many important tools for learning, that we did not have prior to this project.
The art easel and paints, especially glitter paints, have been a favorite for the students. Daily, this area is open for them to illustrate their feelings or an illustration to match an academic goal that I have just covered.
All of the books that I received have been a useful tool during my group counseling time. During this time, I get together with the class and we learn about feelings and core character values in life. All of the bibliotherapy books are focused around these topics of self esteem, being angry, being a good friend, honesty, as well as life issues such as visiting absent parents on the weekends, in jail, and also how to handle bullying. My students listen to the words, look at the illustrations and learn how to process their thoughts and actions in a safe and healthy way.
All of the other materials that I have received have benefited my students and helped me be a more comprehensive teacher. The have brought laughter and learning as well as safe and healthy choices to children with great needs and challenges. We are thankful for them and appreciate them every day.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Coughlin
