Over the course of the pandemic, manga and graphic novels have grown in popularity. It surprised me when I noticed the students created a wait list for the few manga and graphic novels I have in my classroom library. An inclusive and creative community began to blossom in my classroom. Students began to share their own copies and began looking for electronic versions of books. The donations to this project will help the students stay engaged, energetic and curious about reading. These requested materials will be put into rotation. Students will be able to borrow these manga and graphic novels. I want students to love reading and this year they have shown me that this is the type of literature that appeals to them both visually and intellectually. As the year progresses, I hope students will continue to read a book of their choice and feel like they are a part of a community.
