I am about to embark on my fourth year of teaching at the first grade level. In the past, I worked in a co-taught ESOL classroom. This will be my first year co-teaching in a special ed/general ed class, and I'm very excited for this new challenge! I like to think of my students as being the most beautiful rainbow you can imagine. All different cultures, languages, and learning styles coming together with common goals, to learn to read and to find a place in the world. It's my job to give them the tools and skills to reach those goals. Like most every teacher, I believe reading is a gateway to learning. I also believe how we learn to read (good experience vs. bad experience) determines how and with what attitude we proceed with all other learning opportunities. I want my students to be excited to read. I want them to have a love for literature and to be aware of all the different ways you can find it.
