Help Make Our Fantastic 4th Grade Classroom Extra Cozy!
Funded Sep 19, 2024Thank you again for the generous donations to this project. The students have been loving the magnetic tiles and connecting cubes during community building and the creations they are creating are getting more imaginative every week!
All of the lights have added such a warm glow to our classroom. We don't have to always turn on the overhead lights, which can be pretty glaring at times. The fake trees, rug and pillows have added an extra layer of warmth to our classroom that does not go unnoticed by the students.
Your donation has led to a super cozy and calming space for our students. Even the other teachers say they want to relax in our room! Not only will these students get to enjoy all of these donations, but so will classes in years to come. THANK YOU!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Vivien Ford-Smith
Getting Incoming 4th Graders Excited About Reading!
Funded Aug 11, 2023Thank you again for donating to this project! The books took longer than expected to arrive due to shipping delays, so we received the books towards the middle of November. The students were so excited to see all the different series of books I was able to add to the classroom library. They couldn't wait to get their hands on them!
We use the books during their independent reading time, which is an important part of a 4th graders day. During this time, students choose a book to read and we read for 30-45 minutes. These books have helped build higher interest for students who have trouble reading throughout this entire period. The graphic novels help them access the text in a way chapter books might not be able to. One of our higher readers fell in love with the Percy Jackson series and is so happy we have the whole series thanks to YOU.
Myself and the students hope you have a lovely New Year and enjoy reading your own books!”

4th Grade Art for Community Building
Funded Sep 10, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donations to this project. We have been using them throughout the beginning of the school year. First, we used the erasable pens to help us edit some pieces of writing. This brought the students so much joy and helped them see the process of editing more clearly.
Next, we used the modeling clay for every student to create their own worry stones. We had extra clay leftover, so we've been using it during choice time and students absolutely love it. Last, we gave them the sketchbooks recently and the joy on their faces was priceless. Thank you so much for adding this creativity in class!”

Funded Apr 7, 2022I want to express my sincere thanks to all of you who donated to our project. I purposefully ordered materials that would spark joy for my student both during the NY state test and after it. The state test creates a lot of anxiety for students and the materials that were part of this project helped to relieve some of their anxiety.
For example, the squishy animals were passed out before they took their very first math state test. They were allowed to keep their "pets" on their desks to help them through the test. After the test, we made lanyards and bracelets with the materials provided for the project. Both of these can be seen being used in the pictures provided. We made paper airplanes every day and learned how to write in script utilizing some of the books purchased through this project. These were both activities the students requested to learn more about after the state test.
I plan to use the leftover materials and books with my new 4th grade class in September, they will make for great community building activities! Thanks so much!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Vivien Ford-Smith
