I love the ukulele as a teaching tool because of its ease of playing and versatility of genres. Students can learn their first chord on the instrument within a minute of picking it up for the first time. This concept of “quick success” encourages continued interest in learning, they can learn the songs they hear on the radio and gain confidence in accompanying their voice. World drumming has ease of playing and additionally allows students both a physical and creative outlet. Playing rhythms together in complementary ways and creating our own rhythmic accompaniments is such a rewarding process.
