Increased technology will help to not only give students the competitive edge in a global economy but also bring enriching experiences to them that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do. In our 5th grade classroom, technology is vitally important as our world continues to evolve technologically. In order to continue to provide these opportunities for students to research, build presentations, communicate globally, and participate in virtual field trips during the pandemic, it is critical to increase the technology available in our classroom. One crucial part of the Primary Years Programme (IB) is the culminating PYP research project. During "Exhibition", students choose a topic they are passionate about, such as human trafficking. Students research and then present their research using technology. Besides using the technology to research, technology is also used in our room to provide virtual field trips such as to the Jim Crow Museum. Lastly, assistive technology is used to differentiate and meet the needs of my diverse group of students. Assistive technology such as text to speech, speaking to write stories on Google Documents, and drawing out math problems on virtual whiteboards gives all students access to the curriculum.
