My first grade students learn best through hands-on activities. We start each day with some type of morning work reviewing curriculum that has already been taught to further practice or show mastery of the content. As a classroom teacher I have noticed that the general love for school is dwindling, even at such a young age. While content and curriculum are extremely important, instilling the love for school, building a classroom community and cultivating a sense of belonging is my top priority! To help kiddos develop a love for school again, every morning will start out with an engaging, creative, preferred cooperative activity with a peer, rather than completing more unnecessary paper and pencil work. Students will now have an opportunity to be excited to come to school and begin each day learning through play! My students love to interact with their friends and participate in hands on activities. Students will now get the chance to create, explore, manipulate, and discover all while building relationships with their peers. The manipulatives that will be incorporated into the Morning Tubs will allow kids to be kids again without the pressure of more content weighing them down! Students will be able to arrive at school and begin exploring the sensory driven Morning Tubs in small groups! Some items included in the Morning Tubs will include Play-Doh, Magnets, Blocks, STEM projects, fidgets, Tinker Toys, Kinetic Sand, Legos, and more! The additional supports received for funding Morning Tubs will not only help students start their day out on a positive note, but will aide in the strong building of relationships in our classroom community!
