  • Magnetic Letters For 1st Grade

    Funded Feb 23, 2023

These magnetic boards and letters have given my students the opportunity to practice and improve their phonemic awareness by combining letters and letter sounds to make word. Students are able to physically see the letters coming together which is helpful for their little brains. These tools also give students a sensory experience while they practice building words with physical pieces. Every time we get the letters out, students are motivated to work and get started on building! When my students first saw them they were in awe at the amount of kindness someone must have had to donate something special to them. Explaining the process of donorschoose helped them to become even more grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. LaMont

  • Book Bins for Brilliant 1st Graders

    Funded Feb 14, 2022

My class is using the book bins for our catch up work and for a place to store their leveled readers. I printed out and taped numbers to each student's bin so they were able to tell them apart. This has really improved organization in the classroom - normally students would stuff every piece of classwork into their cubbies, and now we have another space for an easy grab-and-go system. When my students first saw the bins they all pointed and gasped. They were so excited to have their very own! :)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. LaMont

With book bins, I will be able to assign one to each student, giving them a leveled book to read during independent reading time. This way students can keep track of what they have read and work their way up when they are ready. It is so important that 1st graders practice reading independently and increase their stamina. They are officially at eight minutes and are working their way up minute by minute. The larger bins are to store materials for the small reading groups I have with the class. Reading groups are so important for supporting and teaching reading strategies, increasing fluency, building confidence in reading, learning phonics, etc. I could go on and on. With these items, I will be able to maintain my organization in the classroom.
