Students at Ripley Middle School are participating in a cooking club. This club is an opportunity for students to learn the basic knowledge and skills needed to cook. Using professional training practices, students will be equipped to cook for their families at home or begin pursuing a deeper love of cooking that could translate to a career post-graduation. This DonorsChoose project would secure the remaining materials needed for a class of 10 students per semester. Students will learn knife skills, how to handle various produce and proteins, how to balance flavors, how to prepare popular and relevant dishes, how to correct common cooking issues. The ultimate goal will for each student to prepare a meal for a parent in an end-of-semester cooking presentation.
