Starting Off the School Year Strong
Funded Aug 22, 2023Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom. It was a joy using the bilingual number cards to help students learn to count in English. We enjoyed using the soft ball to play a game called silent ball which built our collaboration skills and taught students that we don't have to speak the same language to be on the same team. We loved reading the books together, and the students' eyes lit up when they saw a book with their home language in it.
Due to personal circumstances, I will not be finishing the year with 3-01. It was sad to say goodbye to the students, but I was happy to leave the books in their classroom library. One book in particular, My Town Mi Pueblo, was very meaningful to my ENL students. I left a note in there and reminded them they can always read it if they miss me! Thank you for your continued support of Growing Up Green and for all you've done to support them :)”

Summer Reading Baggies of Fun
Funded May 6, 2023Thank you so much for your generosity in sending the kids off with goody bags this summer. The look on their faces, when they came in from recess to see a bag of treats for them on their desks, was priceless. We told them about each of you and how invested you were in their learning, even from afar. They were so excited to know people across the country and internationally cared about them!
They had a blast checking out all the goodies and were trading the bookmarks and pencil toppers throughout the afternoon. We told them that over the summer, to keep the leaps they made in their reading level and continue to make jumps, they should be reading each day and tracking it in the summer reading journals. We encouraged them to bring them back to us at the start of the summer, and find us in our new classrooms!
Thank you again for helping us send of our kids into summer with excitement to continue their reading!!”

Summer Fun Pencil Pouches
Funded Jun 4, 2022Thank you so much for fulfilling our summer fun pencil pouches. I wish you could have seen the students' faces when they opened them! They were thrilled to have their own pencil pouches, and when they saw what was inside, they really lost it with excitement!
The scented erasers were a big hit, as were the scented bookmarks. They were trading each of them to find their favorite food scent. The sunglasses were by far everyone's favorite item. We gave the baggies out on field day, so it was the perfect day for students to wear them. They put them on and we headed to the park for a day of kickball, tag, and sack races. Our class definitely stood out with their matching sunglasses.
In the bag, we printed out a tag to go with the sunglasses that said their futures were bright. We wanted to encourage them that as they begin 4th grade, they are ready and have had experience tackling difficult material! I look forward to seeing last year's class in the hallways this year and will be keeping an eye out for those pencil bags. We couldn't have made this end-of-the-year gift as special or filled their bags as full without you! Thank you so much for all the ways you supported 303 in 2021/22.”

Growing Strong Readers With Audiobooks
Funded Dec 18, 2021Thank you so much for contributing to our fundraiser to provide headphones for our students in 303. We received all the materials and have already put them into use! Our guided reading block has never been so quiet or so productive now that all students have headphones to use in the classroom.
We introduced the Audiobook Station to our guided reading group. They were thrilled and eagerly picked up a pair of headphones and began listening on their computers. The students who use this audiobook station are some of the students that we have the hardest time to engage in reading and often see off-task behavior from during this period. It was amazing to see all of them engaging in their audiobooks jotting notes while they read and following along with the text as they hear the words.
As a school, we have been using TeeReads which allows students to practice fluency. This is website that, before receiving the headphones, we were unable to use in the classroom due to the volume level. Students were not receiving the full effect of the program since they weren't completing it as home as suggested. Now, we are able to do it in the classroom so each week we are getting a fluency recording for every student, which is allowing us to target what skills they need to work on, whether that's pausing for punctuation or reading with expression. It's really exciting to have more data on students that allows us to cater their fluency goals based on samples they're turning in during class!
When we introduced the materials, we shared that many people heard about the work we were doing in our classroom and decided to donate, without even meeting us! They were shocked that people outside of our GUG community care so much about their learning goals. Because of that, they have been taking such amazing care with the materials neatly folding them up each time we use them and putting them back in their original packaging. One student said that "these were a gift, and we must treat them special!" Please know how much my co-teacher and I appreciate your generosity but also how much hope and confidence you've instilled in our class just by them knowing that there are other people out there that are investing in their future.”
