The use of Chromebooks is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially during center time. During center time, student groups can have technology as one of their centers to explore different learning through technology. The Chromebooks allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide data tracking on certain platforms, so I can see how students are progressing. What becomes a problem is the fact that with traditional laptop style Chromebooks, these young students do not have enough computer literacy with moving around a trackpad, navigating webpages, etc. in order to complete activities efficiently and accurately. When issues arise, students often do not know how to get back to where they were or pick a new page to go. They are often having to ask myself and others to help them get back where they were. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss out on their limited tech time. By having the touchscreen Chromebooks, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning since they can just use their fingers to navigate through the pages! By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Students will be able to simply focus on the tasks at hand, and not whether they are clicking correctly. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
