As the students are learning and playing catch up at this time I have noticed the lack of self-confidence and self-value when it comes to challenging assignments and responsibilities. The power of self talk and focus can be very effective in implementing self esteem and self encouragement academically and self image. One example was in class where a African -American student was called to draw herself as a superhero, she drew the image of herself and brought it to me calling it ugly-when i asked why her reply was that it was too dark . We will use the novel for positive insight and in class discussions to spearhead our positive self affirmation books. This response pushed me forward to create this positive affirmation project further. The book is poetic and gives critical thought to empowering the youth.
