Resources to Improve Language in Students With Disabilities
Funded Aug 2, 2023Thank you for making my project possible. With your contribution, I have been able to purchase material to pair with various books I use with my language development students. We have been enjoying the worksheets paired with the different books. These worksheets not only help my students understand the story books better, but they also learn how to sequence a story and improve their answering questions with the visual supports. In the end, the picture support helps my students to retell the story in their own words while formulating appropriate and accurate sentences to further develop their language and vocabulary skills.”

In addition, they got to incorporate skills such as team work and collaboration with peers. They also learned about making predictions and how making changes to the process of creating something can result in something different. Developing Oral Language Narrative
Funded May 9, 2023First, thank you for making my project possible. The wordless books obtained as part of this project have given my students enjoyment in "reading" and telling stories. Since these books don't contain words, students' get to create their own story using their imagination and experience. Each story is different and told from the student's perspective and understanding of the images. These wordless books are wonderful because they take the pressure off of reading making the experience more enjoyable, especially for those students that have difficulty with reading. Further, it helps to build their self-esteem and confidence in being able to orally create a story.
These books also allow for me to work on my students' language skills and structure (e.g., using sentences correctly). We also work on identifying components of a story, such as the setting, characters, problem, etc., to further strengthen their narratives skills so that they can carryover these skills into their curricular activities.
Again, thank you for making these resources available for my students.”
