We are working hard to create a sensory area to help our students regulate their emotions and meet their sensory needs. We have an item the children love that needs replaced, but my annual funding is not enough to cover the replacement. It is a Tumble Forms barrel which we use for motor planning and slow linear rocking which helps some of my students to regulate and calm when overwhelmed or to prepare them to focus on a structured learning task. We would also like to add a quiet place where the students can have a private space when needed. We will add items to this area such as sensory fidgets, calming items, and picture prompts for calming breathing techniques we teach the children to promote self-regulation. We would also like to add some color changing stepping stones for the children to explore and to promote gross motor skills. We have light table that we are adding a variety of fine motor manipulatives and literacy materials to use in this area too. We have added a block set for the light table we would love to add to this sensory area.
