Hello! I am a first year teacher, and like many cannot afford to buy all the things my students need to continue to grow creatively in school. The white boards we currently have in our classroom are shared among all fourth grade students. We have a limited amount of boards and most are worn and scratched from the previous years. I believe that new white boards will make a difference in students ability to engage in class lessons. We use white boards everyday in class. I encourage students to share out their thoughts and ideas behind the process of problem solving each day in math class. White boards will help the students to follow along and get to problem solve in a more creative way. I believe these white boards will make a HUGE difference in our classroom. I have also added pencil bags to my project, many of my students come from a lower income community where parents cannot always afford to buy these supplies. The school gives out pencil boxes each year to all of the students, but they are not ideal for the fourth grade classes. Fourth grade students switch classes many times throughout the day, and carry their books and pencil boxes from class to class. Everyday a pencil box is dropped, the lid is popped open, and out goes all of their belongings. A pencil bag with a zipper close would help to prevent their belongings from falling out and getting lost each day.
