• Winter Garments for Kids

  Funded Dec 3, 2024

  First, thank you so much for your generosity with providing support to the students at Overby-Sheppard. Our students are the recipients of such love and compassion that it is amazing! Thank you! Second, this project allowed our students to have a warm fleece blanket, fresh socks, and new gloves and a hat ahead of the winter weather recently experienced in the city. This was timely as we have had many remote days recently. Our school team identified students in need and provided these winter weather care packages with a loving note. Students were joyous to receive such a kind donation and expressed their gratitude visually, verbally, and with hugs. Your impact was felt by over 50 students! That is one fifth of our student population. Thank you again for your kindness!”

• Basic Necessity: Hand Soap

  Funded Mar 27, 2024

  Thank you for your kindness and generosity with supplying our school with hand soap! This basic necessity is critical to fight bacteria for a more hygienic school community! Thanks to you, our students had soap to use for handwashing instead of only hand sanitizer. This project allowed for hand soap to be in every bathroom and lasted numerous weeks. Our students were happy to have hand soap in the bathrooms again after not having it for quite some time. Our staff was delighted to have it as well.”

• Celebrating Student Accomplishments

  My students absolutely LOVE the popcorn machine, spinning wheel, and prize drop! We have used the spinning wheel multiple times and my students love to spin the wheel themselves and eagerly await the winning slice. Those who are watching the person spinning the wheel clap and gasp when it lands on the winning slice. The prize drop garners similar reactions, too.

  As we move throughout the remainder of the school year, these resources and the resources that we haven't used yet from this project will be used for SOL achievement, attendance improvement, and attendance incentives. I look forward to using the rest of the resources to develop fun and exciting celebrations for my students.

• Incentives for School Attendance

  Thank you for your kindness and generosity! Our students are ecstatic to receive recognition and rewards for their attendance. We call a handful of students to come to our meeting space to personally recognize them for their attendance and the majority of the students do not flash a smile until they see the cart full of prizes for them to pick from. They light up as soon as they see the prize cart and leave the room confidently afterward. Students are encouraged by having "won" a reward for being at school and are told that they can be called upon again so they are excited to have the possibility of getting another reward for being at school.”

• Counseling Tools

  Thank you so much for your generosity in providing counseling tools for me to utilize in my work with students. The floor cushions offer my flexible seating for my students and the ability to sit comfortably on the floor for sessions. The carts are extremely handy for me to utilize as I move to different spaces in the building throughout the day to work with children. The sensory items have been popular with my students and they have shown a lot of excitement with the social emotional skill building games that are on the carts.

• Fuel for School!

  Thank you so much for the generosity and kindness that you showed to our students by donating snack foods to fill our school pantry. Our students benefit from your generosity daily. Anytime a student is unfulfilled from their free breakfast or lunch, they can pick a snack from the pantry to tide them over until their next meal. When we have an excess of pantry items, we even send items home with students on Friday afternoons. Your donations have helped to fill multiple backpacks with weekend snacks so our kids have something to eat over the weekend.

  Our students always get excited when they see the pantry stocked. Their eyes (and stomachs, I'm sure!) light up when they see the variety of snacks they have to choose from. It's awesome to see that they can get something they actually like to eat, rather than just something to put in their stomach that they may not care to eat. Not only does this make our student's feel happy in the moment but it greatly contributes to their ability to get back on task when they return to their classrooms as they are no longer focused on their growling bellies.

  Our hope is to keep our pantry stocked through out the school year so that we can continue to provide nourishment to our littles so they can present their best academic selves. Thank you again for helping us create and achieve one of our goals.”
