After attending school remotely for nearly a year, I want to create a very comfortable learning environment for my students. Since returning to school in person, I along with many teachers here at Molasky have placed lamps around our classrooms to create a home-like feel. Adding more lamps will help create a more calm and relaxing environment that students will enjoy working in. Working strictly with technology while school was closed due to COVID was somewhat difficult for a lot of students. Therefore, I have been engaging my students in more hands-on writing activities and projects to help them learn through practice, increase critical thinking and application skills, as well as retain information better. Having the necessary resources such as glue sticks, paper, sticky notes, stencils, pens, markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc. will allow students to complete more hands-on activities and assignments while having fun learning and building their written expression skills. These activities and projects will also help rebuild socialization, communication, and teamwork skills that were lost due to school being closed. In addition, I want students to keep track of their writing progress throughout the year which is why I have them decorate and personalize their writing folders to store their writing assignments and projects. Keeping the folders in class also helps students stay organized and better prepared for exams and quizzes. Each day I have students construct and share sentences for a set of homophones on the board. Therefore, having a variety of dry erase markers would really help a great deal, especially when students are editing sentences on the board. Having more of these resources in my classroom will really help my students as they learn to become better writers, and they will truly be extremely happy!
