Power and Politics: SS.9-12.WH.15 Analyze the causes and consequences of the radicalization of individuals and groups SS.9-12.WH.6 Identify evidence that draws information directly and substantively from multiple sources to detect inconsistencies in evidence in order to revise or strengthen claims. SS.9-12.WH.10 Participate in rigorous academic discussions emphasizing multiple viewpoints in which claims and evidence are acknowledged, critiqued, and built upon in order to create new understandings of complex historical or current issues. Students will analyze existing propaganda and protest posters and then work collaboratively to develop posters of their own, synthesizing the concepts learned in their analysis. This project helps students apply their learning at a higher depth of knowledge level. Additionally, working collaboratively with hands-on materials will help my students who have had little access to vigorous discussion with their peers and have been limited to mostly digital materials and interactions for the last year. Many of my students have had difficulty reacclimating to in-person learning. Having opportunities to step away from the computer screen and work together will help them regain some of the interactive skills that they have lost this year and improve their mental health.
