Farewell to Manzanar - Class Set
Funded Feb 7, 2024I really appreciate your donation. These books will be used for years to come to teach a story that should never be forgotten.
Thanks to your contribution generations of children will remember the story of one Japanese-American girl and her experiences with injustice.
Although Manzanar was demolished, we will remember it through the words of Jeanne.”
With gratitude,

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 4 other donors.Building a Classroom Library
Funded Jun 18, 2022Thank you so much for your contributions to our classroom library. Students use these books every day to read silently in class for ten minutes and at home for ten minutes a day. Because students are reading every day it is important to have a library with texts that engage students and excite them.
Students have an assignment every week on the book they are reading outside of class. These assignments help students build up their understanding of narrative elements. Students identify setting, theme, character, plot, and figurative language in their books throughout the school year. These questions help students navigate the complex world of literature.
Some of the books the students love are: "Long Way Down" by Jason Reynolds, "They Called us Enemy" by George Takei, and "Harry Potter" by J.K. Rowling. Thank you so much for your contributions!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Paley
Help Build a Classroom Library
Funded Dec 11, 2021In our class, students are expected to read one book and/or three comic books/mangas a mester. This totals to either four books over the course of the school year and/or twelve comic books/mangas a school year! Every week, students answer one question regarding their chosen book. These questions task students to identify and analyze narrative elements such as plot, character, point of view, setting, conflict, and theme. Over the course of the year, students gradually develop a robust set of literary analysis skills.
To help foster a positive classroom reading environment and develop student's literary skills, we set aside ten minutes at the start of each day for silent reading. In addition, students are expected to read at least 10 minutes every day at home.
Again, thank you for your contributions. My students are lucky to be able to read books where they can see themselves in the pages, and in doing so light a spark in their imagination.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Paley
