EmpowHER Art Group
Funded Aug 12, 2024I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your contributions to our EmpowHer Art therapy group at Monroe High School. Your donation means so much to me and our students. The majority of our student body comes from low socio-economic households, where many have experienced depression, anxiety, and intergenerational trauma. Moreover, given the stigma of mental health in our community, it can be challenging to engage students.
I listen to the stressors our adolescent girls experience today. Many face many pressures, including social pressure, pressure from family, and pressure from schools. We acknowledge the salience of having a safe space for them to feel comfortable expressing themselves. Providing this space for girls to express themselves through art has been so meaningful, as it has allowed them to communicate parts of themselves that traditionally are hard to verbalize. Participants could also forge relationships with peers they had not known prior.
It comforts me to know I can support the unique needs of our adolescent girls. Thank you for being an advocate and helping us promote mental health in our community. Our school is better because of donors like you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hurtado

Funded Aug 12, 2024I would like to express my deepest gratitude for contributions to our calm corner project at Monroe High School. Your donation means so much to me and our students. As a school psychiatric social worker, my role is to provide mental health support so that my students have better functioning at home, school and the community. The majority of our student body come from low socio-economic households, where many have experiences of depression, anxiety, and intergenerational trauma. And given the stigma of mental health in our community, it can be difficult to engage students. However, when students come to my office for counseling. they walk into a welcoming, safe, and nonjudgemental environment where they can talk about their problems. So many have commented on the fun decorations and the helpful fidget toys they get to take home with them. It brings me comfort to know I can support students in building the confidence to manage their emotions and navigate stress better with the help supplies purchased with this project.”
With gratitude,

Funded Feb 6, 2023Our Valentine's Day festival was a great opportunity for our school community to come together to create a meaningful experience and promote the wellbeing of our students. Our holistic approach to teaching health and mental health fostered joy and wellness on our campus.
As someone who is involved in activities on campus to help improve our school climate, It was wonderful to see students with smiles on their faces and to feel their enthusiasm to want to learn about healthy relationship practices and self-love.
We will continue to increase mental health literacy by improving students' comprehension of how to develop and maintain positive mental health, reducing the stigma about mental health needs and supports, and increasing students' understanding of how effectively seek help. We hope to continue partnering with various school stakeholders so that we can continue to create an atmosphere of joy and wellness.”
