Can you imagine a classroom where all children can pick up a book and read it to themselves? Can you hear the excitement in their voices as they say, "I read it myself!"? When I teach reading to students, the moment they break the code and realize that all those sounds make words they say and read, I cry. Every year I cry with joy, especially for those students who struggle with academics and with home situations. Those little children who look like they don't stand a chance, suddenly feel confident and successful. There is nothing compared to seeing that lived out in the classroom. Imagine a classroom where all children can pick up a book and read it to themselves. I can hear the excited voices of children who tell me that they have read it all by themselves. These decodable readers will be used daily to help my students begin a journey of being lifelong readers. These readers will be the bridge that connects what students have learned about letter sounds and letter symbols to reading, fluency, and reading comprehension.
