My students, 99% Hispanic and 100% economically disadvantaged, don't often get the opportunity to express their creativity. As the district History Fair approaches, students are excited about doing research, creating their trifold presentation, writing speeches, putting together decks/slides, and displaying their creations for everyone to see. However, their number one concern is that they don't have a printer and have no means of buying one, going to an office store to print, or even any money to pay per-page at the local library. As a charter school to under-privileged students, we offer each student a lap top to use in class and even take home when needed, but we don't offer printing capabilities. For a science or history fair, though, they are expected to create a presentation. This is where my request for a class printer would bridge the gap between what students have at home, what we offer as a school, and what we expect them to create. THANK YOU.
