Often in my lesson plans my students get the opportunity to get creative. They often use colored pencils, crayons, markers and pencils to draw and color such things as pamphlets, posters and drawings that relate to stories we are reading in class. At times I have them work on mini projects that require construction paper therefore construction paper comes in handy along with scissors in order for them to cut out pictures and better illustrate what they are asked to work on. After they are done their work is either displayed on the classroom walls(staple remover comes in handy here) and presented orally to the class. They also work on a project in that requires them to write their future goals on index cards then present their project to the class. One of my favorite assingments consists of them writing a letter to their senior selves. They put it in an envelope and they will read that letter once senior year comes around. Often my students simply need a pencil and paper to work with and I am more than happy to provide that for them and like to keep some as back up. During our warm ups they also get to come to the front of the classroom and answer one of the questions. That is where markers come in handy for all of us.
