Groups of students will have access to a variety of beautiful maps in color for whatever region of the world we are studying (or whatever corner of the globe their curiosity takes them to). While there are many digital resources available, access to technology can be a challenge and sometimes students need a break from screens and find a physical book with curated information on it both comforting and practical. These maps, accompanied by their interesting facts and statistics will increase their general knowledge about the world, build context and help them make connections about topics like migration patterns throughout the school year. We recently concluded our unit on Africa with a focus on the African Diaspora, and are now continuing on to the Americas, where we will be investigating the ways in which members of the Diaspora, as well as the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, have resisted colonization historically and in the present day. These atlases will help our students place the people in the stories we are investigating and gain a greater sense of various aspects of their cultures.
