This project will put graphing calculators in the hands of students who need them -- educationally and financially. It will allow them to begin training on one of the most important tools of higher math education in high schools - the graphing calculator. Funding will allow a 2-3 year arc of math intervention for our ELL students. Starting in Algebra 1, students will be trained in basic functions and operations and include basic programming. In Geometry - 2nd year- students will continue to explore the general uses of the calculator and continue to advance their programming skills. Year 3 - Algebra 2 - is where the 2 prior years will pay off: as students approach topics that are graphing calculator intensive, their prior training and familiarity will not only ease their studies of the curriculum, but should put them ahead of many of their mainstream peers. Our long-term goal is to shore up basic skills by accelerating advanced skills in math for ELs.
