Pre-kindergarten students enter into the classroom daily looking for something new to learn. The diversity of these materials will allow my students to explore and discover all areas in their academic day. Kinetic sand is currently a popular item in our classroom, however as they are learning and developing both fine motor and gross motor skills, a lot of it ends up on the floor. Also with making every effort to keep items and areas clean and sanitized a lot of “consumable” materials get thrown away after a single use. We are in a constant state of replacement. The various materials, manipulatives, and sensory items will keep their interest as they are learning the necessary skills to be successful. Each individual game or manipulative will allow four-year-olds the ability to play side-by-side with their own materials, while social distancing. The classroom rug will allow the students to social distance and occupy their own personal space while still having the ability to share things, take turns, and communicate with their friends. All skills that are necessary in early childhood development.
