After a teacher-less start to the school year, our students now have a consistent teacher, but she's new to teaching!
Please help me provide a calm and artistic environment for my students, who have weathered three teachers and three substitutes, in the first three months of school.
Many teachers were able to request resources at the beginning of the year from families and school organizations, but I began working with this class after the deadlines passed. It would be extra special to have these items to help create a classroom experience that represents the community we have built.
So, why specifically does Orange Base need these supplies???
I am requesting play doh, tempera paints, oil pastels, inspiring decor, and sensory resources, such as bubble pop-its, wiggle seats, bouncy bands, and wikki stix. Our art supplies will be used to carry the students' lessons from art class through to our other subjects, including ELA and Social Studies. The tempera paint sticks allow us to explore paint without having to explore the mess as well.
The pastels are a resource we would love to use for our end of December project: a holiday gift for their families. We hope to have the kids create their own version of starry night.
Many K students are still developing the focus skills needed to attend school full-time. Resources such as bouncy bands and wiggle seats help many students to focus while releasing busy energy, leading to a much more productive learning day for the students. Currently, we have one wiggle seat that has made a large impact on the day-to-day success of our classroom, and we are looking to incorporate similar strategies for a few more students.
Finally, children in kindergarten are still developing their fine motor skills. Play doh is an important tool for this, as it allows children to build strength in their hands, directly leading to better writing, cutting, and drawing skills.
