In the San Benito Learning Center, we meet students where they are at, and close the gap in learning between them and typical peers in general education. We are a goal-setting group focused on increasing fluency in specific skills based on need.
In the SB Learning Center, students meet with an instructor in small groups to work on math, writing, reading, STEAM, social and fine-motor skills. Our small group instruction provides opportunity for explicit instruction and play based collaborations. As the K-3 Learning Center teacher, I am requesting educational tools to aid in instruction and skill practice for these students.
Reading - Auditory feedback phones, provide instant auditory feedback that can help children with reading, pronunciation, and comprehension. Reading Literature, Informational text, & Comprehension games to supplement district curriculum instruction & facilitate repeated skill practice.
Writing - Independent writing activity stations, story sequencing tiles, punctuation board games, and writing process folders.
Math - Sequencing puzzles, magnetic based 10 and tens frame manipulatives.
STEAM- Ozobot EVO is an award-winning robotic platform that teaches coding and STEAM across multiple subjects. It uses a small programable robot that reads line codes students create to control the robot. Ozobot Evo is an incredibly inclusive and accessible coding instructional tool as it has a range of complexity, ranging from the use of colored marker patterns and icons (prereader) to computer generated functions and variables (master). Due to it's versatility this tool will be used for instruction across subject areas.
Social - Conversation starters, emotion identification games, and diversity and inclusion prompts will be integrated into our social group instruction.
Fine-motor- Magnet Boards & Pre-writing color sort encourage a tripod grip needed to write. Additional tools include for this area of skill practice include play-doh, lamination & velcro pieces.
