My school recently started a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics Team. In the 2 years that I have served as coach, I've had over 75 students apply to be on the team but could only accept 10 students per year due to lack of funding for additional teams and robots. Our county funds one program per school, but there is a huge interest from the students to participate and I would love to expand in order to give more students the chance to participate! There are so many amazing skills that students learn when they are able to participate as part of an FLL team. They learn about robotics, coding, and programming. They work collaboratively with others to problem-solve and develop communication skills. They do research on a community problem and come up with innovative solutions that could help others. They also develop their math, writing, presenting, and technology skills. Our school is made up of students of many diverse backgrounds and home situations. We are able to provide this as our only after-school club at no cost, so including as many students as possible is something I would love to be able do!
