Super Bass Pt. 1
Funded Aug 18, 2023Thank you for your support towards the music classroom. We have added this bass instrument to the texture of our music. The scholars have expressed much interest in adding new notes to this collection that we are building.
Scholars compared the sound of the bass bar to that of a timpani that they previously heard on a field trip to see the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. They made observations about them only having a soft fluffy covered mallet rather than yarn-covered mallets. The scholars have been playing this instrument with songs in the key of C!”

Funded May 29, 2023Our Scholars at Sykes Elementary School have really enjoyed the new materials. They have been able to learn how to play each of these instruments along with gaining information on where they have originated from. They have also been told how to care for each of the instruments to ensure longevity for new scholars who come.
The scholars were super excited about the newest additions to the classroom. They got a chance to open the boxes, ask questions, and explore the possibilities of how they can create music using these new instruments.
Scholar's in kindergarten learned about strong and weak beats while using implementations of African instruments such as the agogo bell that has two different sounds. One sound established the strong beat while the other was used for the weak beats. Next steps for their future lessons we will use the shekere to keep the steady beat while using other drums for rhythms as we learn and sing songs. We will also use the other instruments that were within this project with upper grades as well.”

All About That Bass
Funded Mar 23, 2022We greatly appreciate your generous donation of the Bass Xylophone! Yes, We have been off to a busy start of the school year and our scholars have been learning about notes, pitches, rhythms, and able to play the various orff bass lines to accompany students as they sing. Our students were ecstatic when they saw the bass xylophone they all immediately were ready to play! We had many conversations about what the instrument was, how to take care of it, and how to play it! Our prek-5 grade students just a few days ago sang a (sol mi) song called frog frog where a student used the bass xylophone to accompany as other students passed a stuffed frog to the steady beat. Which ever scholar that held the frog at the end of the song was the next student to play the accompaniment on the Bass xylophone. With this activity they learned about broken bordunes using (do and sol), playing an accompaniment while others sing, and moving to a steady beat.”
