Help All Students Learn To Throw And Catch!

Thank you so much for your generous gift that funded the Football Accuracy Target and Stomp and Catch Boards!

I first introduced this equipment to K-3 students during our Station Day in PE. When students walked into the gym and saw the Football Target they were so excited!! Lots of "ooo's", "ahhh's", and "that's SO COOL!". They loved getting to throw a variety of small objects at the target and challenge each other to throw to different pockets. When a successful throw was made I observed lots of jumps for joy, big smiles, and cheers from their whole group. This piece of equipment made practicing our throwing mechanics so much fun and engaging.

The Stomp and Catch Boards were equally challenging and engaging for students. Learning where to stomp and how hard to stomp on the board was an excellent puzzle for students, and I could feel their excitement when they figured out a technique that worked. The older (2-3) students quickly progressed to challenging their partner to catch 2 bean bags at a time, and I loved seeing their joy when they succeeded!!

I will continue to use these materials in our station days in Physical Education so students can continue to practice throwing and catching. Eventually I will introduce more challenging (and silly) materials to throw and catch like frisbees and foam animals. I also look forward to incorporating these materials into my beginning of the year formal Catching and Throwing Unit with all my students (K-5).
