The art supplies (tagboard, foam sheets, felt, glitter glue) will help my students create and better visualize what plant and animal cells look like. My students will be able to construct an animal cell and plant cell and all of the organelles that make up a cell using a variety of art supplies. The storage bins will store the art supplies so kids have easy access to all art supplies when needed. When students are actively involved in building a cell model they have a better overall understanding of how cells function. Many students missed out on these hands-on science projects due to covid and online learning. These projects will help students gain science knowledge they may have missed out on due to Covid. Kids retain more when they are actively engaged in the learning process and cooperatively working together. I would also like my students to have their own materials since Covid protocol does not allow for the sharing of many materials in the classroom. The printer and ink will be used by the students to print out their written descriptions of cells and the functions of their organelles. These standards will be met: 6th Grade Next Generation Science Standards: MS-LS1-1 Conduct an investigation to provide evidence that living things are made of cells; either one cell or many different numbers and types of cells. MS-LS1-2 Develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell as a whole and ways parts of cells contribute to the function.
