My students are so thankful for DonorsChoose.org for helping them learn and grow. In Occupational Therapy sessions I facilitate independence with self help skills, sensory regulation and fine motor writing skills on an individual and group level so that all students are able to access and participate in their school and classroom environments.
Each and every student is unique and has sensory needs that benefit from visual, auditory, tactile, and proprioceptive input; this input provides a calm and regulating environment which supports learning readiness. More specifically, this is the ability to ready the body and mind for learning. I have included a variety of items such as tactile tubes, bubble tubes, switch adapted lights, sound machines, weighted and scented plush animals and more. All of these items are accessible to each student and help to regulate the nervous system so that students are ready to learn, function and be contributing members to their community.
I have also included self-help items such as a life skills backpack to work on fasteners and a toy owl to work on dressing skills. Fine motor items have been included to address hand strength, dexterity and endurance for participation in school activities such as writing and classroom projects. In addition, I have included a gift card for Teachers Pay Teachers, which helps to support access to materials for tabletop tasks and other activities, specifically for blocked handwriting interventions for dysgraphia, deep pressure and heavy work activities, sensory processing activities, sensory integration sessions and RTI MTSS problem solving.
Thank you so much for your support!
