Riding Our First Trikes!
Funded Dec 23, 2021Our 72 Kindergarten students are using the new resources every day three times a day! They love riding their trikes together with friends during morning recess, lunchtime recess and afternoon recess. It is a beautiful sight to watch them travel along the road that has been painted onto the playground for them. As they have fun, they are also strengthening large motor skills, leg muscles and further developing their collaboration skills.
When students first saw the tricycles it felt like Christmas morning. They were in awe, filled with excitement and anticipation as they formed a line for their very first ride! Many students do not own bicycles or tricycles of their own, and this was a first time experience for so many of them.
Our school community is in the middle of downtown Los Angeles with little room for gardens and greenery. The next project I would like to work on for my students is to create a field trip opportunity to Tanaka Farms so that they can experience first hand how fruits and vegetables grow, see farm animals for the first time, and have the opportunity to pick their very own strawberries. Tanaka Farms is in Irvine, which is way outside of our neighborhood and this causes bus prices to be exponentially higher due to the distance and extended number of hours the bus will be needed. Nevertheless, I am confident that my students would benefit from this once in a lifetime opportunity and will remember it fondly for years to come.”

Funded Mar 31, 2022Thank you for your generosity and kindness! Our Kinder students and I are beyond thrilled to see our project funded and we are so excited about the resources coming our way. With them, we will be able to strengthen fine motor skills and develop further as authors and illustrators who are prepared to see their thoughts and ideas come to life. We could not have these tools without each of you! Thank you!”
