Having noise cancelling headphone allows my students that are working independently to focus on their work instead of other groups that are working with the teacher. Having 3 different grades in one classroom can make it a challenge to get my students that are working independently to focus. By having noise cancelling headphones in the class, they can focus on their work and not listen to the other groups. My younger students have a tough time focusing when distractions are in the classroom. When I'm working with other groups they like to watch the groups work instead of working on their assignments.
