During Covid, our campus, like many others shut down and transitioned to virtual learning. Students were out of the classroom and participated in mostly online learning. The absence of in-person instruction was detrimental to student progress and development, especially students with autism. There was a positive that did come out distance education, and that was that parents had to be involved in and aware of their child's goals and curriculum. I worked hard to make sure I built a good rapport with my student's families. Even though we have returned to in person teaching, I have continued to communicate and give supports, activities, and feedback to parents. In order to do this, I have been staying late at school, and/or coming in for a bit on my weekends. I would love to have a laptop so I could work from home to continue helping support families to continue communication skills, behavior/social skills, as well as academic practice. Our kiddos with autism need continuous practice across school and home environment and the parents need support and feedback from the teacher.
