I am requesting four picnic tables so classes will have the experience of creating art outside. The tables can be used every year to provide this unique outdoor experience for all future students. Students will have learning experiences of creating with direct observation. Direct observation captures the moment. I have learned that while photographs can be a great form of reference, they do not have the true 3-dimensional quality that should be captured in direct observation. The quality of work is vastly improved using real people, landscapes, objects. Students being quarantined inside their homes during the pandemic has been difficult on their mental health. Studies are slowly coming out showing the levels of anxiety and depression as a result. The outdoor art lessons would give us the opportunity to explore beyond the classroom walls during the fall and spring weather. A fresh take on moving beyond the four walls of the classroom can help relieve the stress and anxiety. Finally, with the funding of the tables, the art program plans to create a unique outdoor art garden area with art installations. A warm inviting learning environment that has the special touch of a home away from home.
