Reading is fundamental to the growth and development of our students. With literature circles, students are able to have a say in their independent reading while using the necessary skills to decipher a text. When students have a say in their reading, their growth flourishes! With your help, all of my ninth graders will be provided with titles of different genres, reading levels, and topics - cultures, science-fiction, family dynamics, and coming of age - and they will be able to use literature circles to expand their learning in ways they otherwise would be unable to. Reluctant readers feel empowered when they have a choice, and this independent reading strategy is made just for that.
