My students are learning about rocks, minerals, and various types of natural disasters. They have not previously had much experience with science experiments, nor opportunities to explore. This project will allow 4th grade students from a wide variety of backgrounds to learn grade level content while having lots of fun exploring and excavating rocks, minerals, fossils, and creating erupting volcanoes after learning about Pompeii. My students need materials that allow them to be excited for STEM and eager to get their hands dirty through exploration and excavation. Students can also learn at home with these materials.
